Sea Containers House

South Bank, London

Client:

Byrne Group

About the Project:

Perched along the River Thames, Sea Containers House is one of London’s most recognisable riverside buildings. Originally built in the 1970s and later redeveloped into a vibrant mixed-use space, it now houses offices, restaurants and the iconic Sea Containers London hotel. The redevelopment required all contractors to uphold a meticulous design vision, especially in areas where structural elements and services are on full display.
Byrne Group commissioned SBS to deliver a comprehensive passive fire protection package that balanced rigorous safety compliance with architectural quality. With much of the fire protection work visible to the public or located within high-spec interiors, aesthetics were a critical factor throughout.
System Building Services Limited installed fire stopping systems through floors and walls to contain fire spread across the building’s vertical and horizontal zones. We also delivered full structural fire protection using a combination of intumescent paint and fire-rated boards, selected to complement the building’s internal design scheme. Additionally, our team supplied and fitted high-voltage cable encasements, safeguarding vital infrastructure while maintaining a neat, coordinated appearance in visible service zones.
SBS delivered a fire protection solution that matched the project’s architectural ambitions and technical demands. Our ability to blend safety with style ensured Sea Containers House retained its design integrity while meeting all fire compliance requirements for a modern, multifunctional landmark.
